2021 has been a particularly rough year for Ghana’s LGBTQI people. Police raided and shut down Ghana’s first-ever queer community center in Accra; 21 people attending a paralegal workshop in the city of Ho were unlawfully arrested and detained for 21 days before the case was dropped; In July, eight members of parliament introduced the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill 2021, which would proscribe and criminalize any advocacy of LGBT identity.
