This course explores the factors that have shaped contemporary Africa and its people. The goal is to establish a foundational understanding of Africa’s history, demography, geo-political, societies and developmental complexities. Students from separate disciplines work together in an environment where they can combine their academic backgrounds in innovative ways to understand and address the continent’s challenges and strengthen the opportunities Africa presents, with an emphasis on how Africans themselves view their continent and the world.

As part of this course, students worked on the presentation of multimedia country profiles. Students will also participate in a Small Private Online Course (SPOC), presented as a Global Classroom, in which they will critically engage with peer students from African universities on a discussion about the Sustainable Development Goals.
